Honoring the centenary of the Valmiera Drama Theatre, the Boris and Ināra Teterev Foundation has supported the creation of four crucial new productions of Latvian drama classics.

Thanks to the support of the foundation in the amount of at least EUR 100,000, in 2023 and 2024, Valmiera Theater will stage four important new productions of classical works of Latvian drama, also one of the central events of the season - Rainis's "Jāzeps and his Brothers" directed by Inese Mičule, in the visual interpretation by artists Reinis and Krista Dzudzilo. With the support of the foundation, three more works of classics will be staged - "Widow's Son" (director Viesturs Roziņš), based on the work of Vilis Plūdonis, "Boys of Valmiera" by Pāvels Rozītis (director Jānis Znotiņš) and "The Lost Son" by Rūdolfs Blaumanis (director Reinis Suhanovs).

The philanthropist Ināra Tetereva: "The foundation's support for the staging of classical works of Latvian drama is our special gift on the centenary of the Valmiera Drama Theatre to everyone who loves the theatre art. I am pleased that we can support both the important new productions of the season and one of the central events - Rainis's play "Jāzeps and his Brothers". I wish the audience to enjoy it. Let the Theater inspire us!"

Valmiera theater director Evita Ašeradena and philanthropist Ināra Tetereva signed a cooperation agreement on August 1, 2023 - at the festive opening of the anniversary season. It is signed next to the art object "Kroder's apple tree", a tribute to the great director Olģerts Kroders.

The art object was created by artists Aivars Vilipsōn and Ivars Miķelsons with the co-financing of the Boris and Ināra Teterev Foundation. "Kroder's apple tree" also embodies the idea that a person is characterized by his works and the fruits of his labor. Therefore, the new cooperation between the foundation and the Valmiera Drama Theater symbolically started near this art object, which is essential for theater lovers.

Director of the Valmiera Theater Evita Ašeradena: "The friendship of the Boris and Ināra Teterev Foundation with the Valmiera Theater began in 2017 when philanthropists visited our theater, and we dreamed up big plans. In 2020, in cooperation with the Kroder Foundation, the dream of creating and installing the art object "Kroder's Apple Tree" dedicated to the director Olģerts Kroders was fulfilled in Valmiera. Now we are dreaming further - because only with such substantial financial support it is possible to realize artistically full-fledged productions, such as are intended by artists from the generation for whom it is important to express their vision of today's Latvia through classics."

Valmiera Drama Theater in the season 2023/2024, will mostly stage works of Latvian authors, thus honoring the classics of Latvian drama, as well as highlighting works of contemporary authors. The season will also emphasize the image of the man. In general, new productions will reflect a man in different aspects: a warrior, father, son, dreamer, lover, patriot, brotherhood member, etc.
