To strengthen the fight of Latvian scientists and physicians against COVID-19, the Boris and Ināra Teterev Foundation has allocated funding for coronavirus research. With this support, Rīga Stradiņš University implemented the research “COVID-19 in the context of the infection pathogenesis paradigm with cytokine profiles in dynamics in patients with different severity of disease”.

The study allows to identify human immunological, genetic, and environmental factors that influence the clinical manifestations of COVID-19. This aspect is especially important to be able to predict the course of the disease in patients from different risk groups. The results can further be used to provide the appropriate treatment.

We invite you to watch the story of LTV "Panorama" about the course of the research and the opinions of virologists (in Latvian):

The materials of patients are stored in the National Genome Database. The biobank of patient material created in cooperation with the Latvian Biomedical Research and Study Center, leading Latvian hospitals, and other scientific institutions will be used to study the virus mutation detected in Latvia, as well as for future research of COVID-19 in Latvia and internationally.
