Festive Packages and Events for Senior Citizens in the Regions (2013 - 2017)

On the occasion of seasonal celebrations and public holidays, festive packages are presented to thousands of senior citizens. These contain a handmade greeting and products for their festive table, which pensioners have trouble buying themselves on an everyday basis. The festive packages are put together and subsequently delivered by the employees of regional foundations and the volunteers helping them.

Festive packages were prepared and distributed by eight regional foundations in Talsi, Alūksne and Ape, Lielvārde, Kandava, Valmiera, Preiļi, Limbaži and Ķekava.

As the Head of the foundation in Preiļi Valija Vaivode explains, “The genuine joy that we witness and the shedding of tears of gratitude are the reason why we combine groups of foundation employees and volunteers to visit lonely people in even the most remote corners of the region.”

At least once a season, the foundations also organise special events for senior citizens at which the Ausekļa Limbaži Theatre performs various plays.

From 2013 to 2017, festive packages have been presented to thousands of senior citizens in 24 districts, in addition to which tens of events dedicated to senior citizens have been held.   

During the 2013/2014 season, in the run-up to seasonal celebrations, almost 2'000 pensioners in 18 districts were presented with 3'800 festive packages, and nine festive events were held. Subsequently, during the 2014/2015 season, 5'344 packages were presented to 3'900 senior citizens in 23 districts, and pensioners had the chance to attend 16 festive events held in their honour. During the 2015/2016 season, 3'000 pensioners in 24 municipalities received 5'125 festive packages and attended 12 festive events. In turn, during the 2016/2017 season, almost 3'050 senior citizens received festive packages and attended 12 events.
