As part of its program of support for animal welfare initiatives in Latvia, the Boris and Ināra Teterev Foundation is helping the animal sanctuary “A Good Home”.
The aid received by the shelter enables it to clinically examine dogs and cats upon their arrival at the shelter and to provide them with any medical care they require. With the Foundation’s support, “A Good Home” not only vaccinates animals, but also gives them the all-round care, analyses, treatment, and operations they need, and can buy the medicines and equipment it requires to do its work. The Foundation also supports the sterilization of animals that arrive at the shelter if owners cannot be found to take care of them.
Over the years of operation – since 2013 – the shelter has taken in 2`411 dogs and 3`038 cats, including 19 dogs and 8 cats from Ukraine. The majority of the animals have found their forever homes.
The director of “A Good Home”, Astrīda Kārkliņa, states: “Looking back at all the work we have accomplished with the support of the foundation from 2013 until the end of 2024, we must highlight the significant contribution to the care of abandoned and homeless animals. We have provided a high level of veterinary medical care for all dogs and cats taken in by the shelter. Whether it was admitting the animals, diagnosing their health conditions, treating them, or ensuring their daily care – we have always managed to do so professionally and responsibly”.
Over these years, significant technical improvements, renovations, and upgrades to the building and territory of the animal shelter have also been carried out. These include the replacement of the old roof covering nearly 1,200 square meters, the renewal of the concrete floor surface in the dog housing areas, the reinforcement of water drainage channels, the installation of two new heating boilers, the setup of a new biological wastewater treatment system, and other essential works necessary for the shelter’s functioning.
