The Grand Medal and the prize of the Boris and Ināra Teterev Foundation - 10 000 euros - received the Full Member of the Academy of Sciences Tālavs Jundzis and the Honorary Doctor of the Academy of Sciences Romans Lācis.

On 12 November 2013, the philanthropists Boris and Ināra Teterev and Latvian Academy of Sciences’ President Ojārs Spārītis reached an agreement on the provision of support to the Latvian Academy of Sciences to recognise outstanding in science that benefit Latvian society and the nation as a whole.

Under the auspices of this programme, the Foundation provides support for the Latvian Academy of Sciences Grand Medal, which is the highest award awarded to Latvian and overseas scientists for outstanding creative achievements.

In congratulating the academicians on receiving the LAS Grand Medal, the philanthropists Boris and Ināra Teterev said, “With respect and gratitude, we keep track of outstanding achievements in science. The contribution of the laureates, in doing service for the benefit of society, is of long-term value. The Grand Medal is deserved and true recognition of their achievement!”

In addressing the LAS Grand Medal laureates, LAS President Ojārs Spārītis stressed that, “For several years now, the Grand Medal has been accompanied by the pleasant bonus of a cash prize, awarded by the Boris and Ināra Teterev Foundation, whose founders were successful in business, and, in their philanthropic selflessness, are now supporting social projects, medicine, higher education, culture, the restoration of Rundale Palace, theatre and the arts, as well as Latvian science.”
