  • The 12th and final exhibition in the exhibition cycle, “The Self. The History of Latvian Contemporary Art” has opened at the National Library of Latvia’s Arts and Music Centre.

  • The cycle “The Self. The History of Latvian Contemporary Art” is a collaboration project between the NLL and the Boris and Ināra Teterev Foundation, augmenting the exhibits on show at the NLL Arts and Music Centre.

  • The exhibition showcases new works by artists Ojārs Pētersons and Indriķis Ģelzis, as well as work by Sarmīte Māliņa and Ēriks Božis from the collection of the Latvian National Museum of Art, as well as books and catalogues about these artists.

  • The exhibitions in the exhibition cycle “The Self. The History of Latvian Contemporary Art” showcase works by masters of Latvian contemporary art, mainly drawn from the LNMA collection.

  • Also exhibited in this cycle of exhibitions are works by artists who are currently active, aspects of whose creative output thematically or stylistically resonates with the art of the relevant artistic great.

  • These exhibitions are all inspired by the book, “The Self. Personal Journeys to Contemporary Art. The 1960s-80s in Soviet Latvia”. The aforementioned publication was compiled by Helēna Demakova, art historian and curator of the exhibition cycle “The Self. The History of Latvian Contemporary Art”.
